.: TOOTH CLEANING :....................................................
The key to maintaining good dental hygiene is regular cleaning. At COIMAR we recommend you have your teeth professionally cleaned at least twice a year to remove staining and discolouring and prevent dental problems.
Professional tooth cleaning involves the removal of plaque and tartar from the teeth which helps to prevent cavities, gingivitis and gum disease. Once the plaque and tartar have been removed teeth are then scaled and polished. If too much tartar has built up, the professional cleaning is completed with a fluoride treatment.
At COIMAR we recommend that between your professional teeth cleanings, frequent brushing and flossing is undertaken to maintain good oral hygiene and prevent tartar build up.
.: TOOTH WHITENING :..................................................
At COIMAR, we offer two different types of tooth whitening treatments, an LED-based treatment at our clinic and one which can be done in the comfort of your home.
We use BT Cool, a leading LED-based tooth whitening system. BT Cool comprises a set of 12 high power diode lamps which offers outstanding results. This advanced technique has the potential to whiten teeth by up to 8 shades in just 15 minutes. We strongly recommend this system as it is fast, simple, effective, pain-free and 100% safe. The LED-based technology is far superior to any other whitening products available and with good dental care, results can last from 12–18 months.
If you prefer to whiten your teeth at home, we offer custom-made whitening gels which use mild oxygen releasing ingredients. Home whitening kits are effective for those looking for a more gradual and subtle tooth whitening treatment.

Is Bleaching dangerous to your teeth?
Modern bleaching methods (tooth brightning) do not harm your teeth if made by a professional dentist. Modern bleaching uses methods that are less abrasive to dental enamel than, for example, freshly squeezed citrus juices. Bleaching itself is not dangerous, only if it is not performed properly.
Bleaching is a technique used to make your natural teeth look whiter. Drinking tea, coffee or red wine, smoking or simply ageing makes teeth darker or spotty.
Professional whitening is performed using active oxygen, which bleaches annoying discolorations in the teeth. First, the gums are covered using a special rubber material – which protects them during bleaching. Only real teeth can be bleached (no crowns, bridges or veneers).
Once the gums have been covered and the teeth are dry, the bleaching solution is prepared using a two-step mixing process and then applied to the teeth. Before bleaching, the teeth and fillings should be checked by the dentist and, if necessary, professional cleansing (dental hygiene) performed. The bleaching solution is left to work on the teeth, after which it is removed and the teeth rinsed with water. The protective rubber covering is also removed.
Bleaching can be done once every 2 years, with no adverse effects.
Your teeth are as unique as you are. They will definitely become whiter, as can be seen in this picture – just how much whiter depends on the original color of your teeth. Depending on the degree of discoloration, whitening is possible from several hues. The brighter color usually stays for about 1-2 years - or longer, assuming proper and regular professional dental hygiene. Heavy consumption of substances leading to discoloration (alcohol, nicotine, red juices, tea, coffee, cola, red wine, mustard, ketchup …) as well as insufficient dental hygiene will again cause pigmentation.
